AquaTox Evolves!!

A proud recipient of support from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario

AquaTox Testing and Consulting Inc. is excited to announce that we were awarded the Government of Canada’s Women Entrepreneurship Fund!  The objective of this fund is to provide support to women to grow their businesses and facilitate the pursuit of opportunities in markets abroad. The Fund is a $20 million investment for the Government, providing AquaTox with up to $100,000 in non-repayable contribution funding.

AquaTox is proudly a women -owned and -led company headed by Lesley Novak (President, Director of Laboratory Services) & Dr. Lisa Taylor (Vice President) with Martina Rendas and Shawna Kirkpatrick as senior managers and shareholders. Three of our lead executive members have been with the lab for 25+ yrs. Our firm has been providing ecotoxicity testing & consulting services to government and industry for over 30 years.  AquaTox proudly supports Canadian women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). In fact, AquaTox has 2 senior scientists with doctorates in environmental toxicology. Dr. Paula Antunes is a Research Scientist who leads our R&D projects.  Dr. Lisa Taylor is a Senior Ecotoxicologist and AquaTox’s Vice-President.  Both publish in scientific peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences.  Having these two scientists in prominent positions within AquaTox sets a positive example, particularly for our younger female staff who are in the midst of launching their careers.

With the awarded funding, AquaTox is up-scaling and further modernizing key areas of our business. Toxicity testing with aquatic organisms is a mandatory requirement under provincial & federal (Fisheries Act) regulations.  Current changes to federal regulations intended to enhance environmental protection have resulted in an increased demand for testing.  The expansion of our services (made possible as a result of this funding), will enable us to strengthen our capacity to support the monitoring of industrial discharges and new product registration, and as such, allow us to continue to provide the highest level of science and service possible to our valued clientele both within Canada and internationally.
